Auto Service Technician

Steve C.

I’m going to tell you a little about my experience while attending GTTI’s Automotive Service Technician Pre-Apprenticeship program. At the time I was unemployed looking for work and I had no direction in my life or what I wanted to do.  I’ve always had a strong interest in cars. I just took it as a hobby or a passion of mine but never thought that I could change that into a career. I was accepted into the program!

I received transportation from my place to the facility every day free of charge. We received lots of training and certifications which look really good on a resume. Academic upgrading was very helpful too. I’ve been out of high school for many years and forgot a lot of basic school skills.  After the academic upgrading we were all off to college: it seemed like a pretty big step because there was a lot of troubled youth in within the program, including myself. After college, we all got to have an interview with reps from the automotive industry. I would just like to add that without the GTTI training program I would not be where I would be in life right now.

I feel very blessed to be able to say that I was in such a program like this. I would like to say thank you to Tammy and all the other staff that worked at GTTI to help us through our career path.

Truck Driver Training

Andrew R.

Andrew took part in the first intake of the Truck Driver Training Program . Andrew found the program to be very helpful and informative, gaining his AZ license as a result. He liked how they were taught about log books, paper work, and going through the scale; all important elements of a career in Trucking. Working with the Ontario Truck Training Academy driving instructors proved to be very beneficial and Andrew appreciated the immediate feedback they provided to guide him in his learning.

He also enjoyed working with his classmates and felt that they communicated well and were very supportive of each other. This program and gaining an AZ license has changed Andrew’s life by enabling him to improve his employment and as a result be more financially stable with more opportunities for growth. He is currently driving for a local company.

Brett R.

Brett also took part in the Truck Driver Training Program in partnership with OTTA. He enjoyed and appreciated the amount of knowledge gained through the program, from truck training to First Aid & CPR. He felt that everyone involved in the program was great, and he really appreciated how the Program Coordinator went above and beyond to help him be successful in the program.

From this program Brett has gained a career, skills and a new confidence. He feels that he now has a career he can rely on and is enjoying trucking very much. Brett is working for Transfreight McNamara and is currently doing long hauls across Canada and the United States.
